Position Overview
As a key leader within the school district, the School Business & Operations Manager is responsible for shaping the financial future of Douglas Public Schools. At the heart of the position is the preparation, planning, execution, and monitoring of the annual operating, special revenue funds, and capital budgets, ensuring that every dollar reflects the district’s priorities. Through careful financial analysis and strategic planning, the role supports long-term district objectives while maintaining an up-to-date and accurate budget database, conducts all procurements, and oversees purchasing activities, ensuring strict compliance with Massachusetts general laws. Serving as the principal financial advisor to the School Committee and Superintendent, this individual provides crucial reports and insights that guide decision-making. Collaboration extends beyond the school district. Strong partnerships with town officials, including the Finance Director/Town Accountant, Treasurer/Collector, and Town Administrator, along with fire, police, highway, and other town departments help to create seamless coordination between town and school operations.
Selected Responsibilities
- Develop and implement sound financial policies and procedures to maintain compliance and fiscal stability.
- Budget development and monitoring, budget and financial reporting, and resource allocation to support district initiatives.
- Manage facilities operations, transportation, and food services to ensure efficiency and compliance with regulations.
- Collaborate with district administrators, town officials, and community members to align financial and operational goals.
- Supervise and support business office staff to ensure effective financial management and reporting.
- Develop long-term financial and capital planning strategies to sustain district growth and improvement.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements.
Desired Qualifications
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a School Business Administrator by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Master’s degree, from an accredited college or university, in Educational Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, or other related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience and demonstrated leadership in school or municipal financial management
- Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing official (MCPPO)
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements

- Director II certification by the Massachusetts EEC (required or evidence of eligibility)
- Significant administrative experience including curriculum building and instruction, school operations and finances, and strategic planning
- Strong fiscal management skills with knowledge and fiduciary understanding of non-profit organizational operations
- Strong personnel management experience with demonstrated ability and insight to recruit and retain high-quality staff; ability to lead, guide, motivate and direct a diverse and talented staff
- Experience with early childhood local, state, and national resources/agencies, particularly EEC
- Deep understanding of early childhood development and the learning needs of a diverse community of learners, ages 15 months – 5 years
- Experience on, or working with, a Board of Directors is a plus
- Preschool teaching experience considered an asset
- Confident and clear communication, both verbally and in writing
- Awareness of and attentiveness toward emerging educational trends and EEC program development

Uxbridge Public Schools has been recognized nationally for its Innovation Pathways Program at the high school and was bestowed Distinguished Status for Project Lead the Way at the Early Learning Center and the high school. These programs give students access to applied and experiential learning opportunities in different career areas, increasing engagement and achievement.
Along with strong academic programs, the district provides a wide variety of co-curricular programs for its students, including established Extended Day programs in Grades K-6; strong music, chorus and athletic programs in Grades 4-7; and robust club and athletic offerings in Grades 8-12. Uxbridge is governed by a five-member elected board with a town meeting style of government. The school system is governed by a seven-member elected school committee.

The successful candidate for the position of Superintendent of Schools must exhibit a record of strong leadership skills in an administrative role. They must have proven performance of past leadership, demonstrating a strong ability to collaborate with involved stakeholders, including the community and the School Committee, to establish and execute on a shared vision for the district. The candidate should have a record of building and directing successful teams and cultivating relationships of all involved with empathy and understanding, while constantly seeking to promote academic excellence and social emotional well-being.
A master’s degree is required; a Ph.D. or Ed.D. is preferred. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensing as Superintendent of Schools in Massachusetts. The Uxbridge School Committee will offer a contract with a regionally competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience, along with a generous benefits package.
