IDEA turns 50 in 2025 and the cost of providing special education services has become a pressing concern for school districts, especially as the number of students who receive services under IDEA has increased significantly. Currently, the federal funding contribution of the average per pupil expenditures is approximately 10%. Inadequate funding for special education can force funding cuts to other programs and services.
